Association of Westborough Residents

The meeting next Friday 24th February is important for the residents of Westborough Ward.  The New Association tab will take you to the recent flier distributed to all 5000 households in Westborough by the Councillors

The Councillors have made a concerted effort to set this up so the Residents can chose their new association, with the forthcoming localism act much more can be done locally.

Below is a transcript of a few words Bob Howes had to say at the Forum last friday 17th about the Localism Act

"
With our Council dominated by the Tories, most opposition Councillors feel powerless to make changes to the policies which they have decided to pursue. What is worse, many of their own back-benchers also feel unable to amend policy which has been pre-determined by the Cabinet.
With the new Localism Bill, changes will be made to the nature of Resident's Associations, and other Neighbourhood groups.
The groups will be afforded new responsibilities and more influence over how their areas are governed and developed. Their voices will be more clearly heard, they will likely be in discussion with developers, and there will be funding streams available in some circumstances.

This is why it is so important that Westborough Ward has a strong apolitical Association, which can be successful in helping to improve the local area. By being a strong and organised group, the Association could have a major impact on how the Ward changes in the future.

These changes are quite radical, and we should try to make sure that our new Association is big enough and clever enough to take full advantage."

Please make the effort to be there, without residents input the Council will attempt to walk all over us again, ‘Divided we fall’, lets stick it to them & unite for the good of the community.
